Question: diarrhea for two weeks. rumbling through the intestines like bad plumbing. Imodium AD does not seem to be taking hold. Have added probiotics in last 4 days. all foods are regular and normal for me - rather bland actually. All started with mom's Chili and it hasn't subsided yet.

Brief Answer:
get your stool examination and complete haemogram to see for infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thanks for putting your query in hcm. I will suggest you to get your stool microscopy and complete haemogram to see whether there is any infection. Meanwhile take capsule racedrotil, which is another type of antisecretory agent. You can take it thrice in a day and titrate the dose according to the response. I found it useful in my patients when imodium do not works. Also take an antibiotic rifaximin which acts only in gut and has no systemic absorption. Continue with probiotic. Avoid dairy products. Take adequate fluids and electrol powder to prevent insufficiency of fluid and electrolyte. And if the above mentioned test suggest infection then discuss with your doctor regarding the course of antibiotic. Hope this will help you. Wish you a good health
