Question : What can cause a feeling of heat and like your face to get extremely hot? Then my hands get clammy? Its happened twice over the last 2 days. Just my face getting extremely hot. Once in a store and the other at a play sitting down. Fyi, im due for my period any day i think but this is the first time its ever happened. I am almost 40.

Brief Answer:
Check your thyroid function if you haven't done already.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.

That symptom can happen to people who have problems with thyroid hormones. So my recommendation would be to consider doing a Complete blood count and also a TSH.

If those are normal, then other possible causes can be the starting of menopause. I know you are young, but if your mother have had early menopause, then it can be possible for you too.

At last, it can be a symptom of anxiety, due to the changes of the hormonal levels before the menstrual cycle.

For now, I will say to not use nothing, because it can be something temporary.
If worse or not better, I would recommend seeing a local doctor. Or come back to me and I will be happy to advise accordingly.

Hope this is helpful.

Thank you. I did recently have all my thyroid blood work and everything was fine. My wbc last time were a lil elevated 11.8, my platelets 438 and my c reactive protein was 10. I wasnt sick or anything so im not sure. It felt awful so the only other thing could be hormones or anxiety? It went right away after the play and i was out in the colder temps.. it happened the day before tho also

Brief Answer:
Yes, most probably related with hormones or anxiety

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for the follow-up question.

It seems like your wbc and other tests have been a bit high, indicative of a passed infection, but you don't need to worry about those because they are only temporary values.

Yes, the episodes of hot flashes may seem related more to hormonal disbalance or anxiety. Have your period been regular lately? Also you been angry or irritated more then usual?
As I said, just 2 episodes and not enough to determine if this is something organic or something temporary/just related to circumstances.

Feel free to update me with new symptoms appearing if any, or if you think of something else that may be related to it...for example if you have taken any new medicine recently?

Regards,
Dr. Papaqako
