Question: Can a child who was diagnosed with a "pin-size hole in the heart" suffer from any effects of this suddenly in their life as they get older? Also they are epileptic and had tonic clonic seizures at 7 weeks old - in combination can these cause reason for alarm?

Brief Answer:
Need for a careful follow up

Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thank you for your question on HCM!
Regarding your concern I would explain that pin sized atrial septal defects are generally well tolerated till the late adulthood. Not a rare complication is paradoxical embolism which appears in adults especially in concomitant presence of atrial septal aneurysm.
Regarding epilepsy its adulthood expectancy depends on the etiological cause.
In general seizures lower frequency with time ,but when there is a structurall brain lesion ,congenital or acquired seizures persist .
If you have any other questions feel free to contact me.
Greetings Dr Ilir
