Question : Sir, I was diagnosed as pituitary adenoma with growth hormone producing 3yrs ago for which they have done surgery twice with a gap of 2 years and then followed by radiation as it was reoccurring. After 1st surgery I was given wysolone 5mg for 6 months. My weight increased for 52 to 65. After 2 surgery I lost my periods so they gave me progynova plus meprate after which I increased form 65 to 80. Now they shifted me to femilon even after rigours excrecise and diet I'm not putting down wt. My doctor days says it may be due to excessive growth hormone that is realesing from the adenoma so I'm taking octerotide inj. Also but their is no decreasing in my weight can u tell me the actual reason of my weight gain and the best way to loss it as I tried all possible ways. Thank you

                                    Brief Answer:
It could be due to GH, steroids, HRT
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Welcome to HCM. I have gone through the question and understand your concerns.
There are multiple reasons for your weight gain. Growth hormone will increase the weight if it is not controlled with octreotide. Hormone replacement treatment - progynova, meprate and wysolone are having weight gain as side effects.
Please check your blood sugars are you are at risk of diabetes, which is also associated with weight gain.
Hope I have answered your questions. If you have any further queries I will be happy to help you.

                                    Brief Answer:
Diet and exercise, LH,FSH treatment
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Welcome back.
A. Weight reduction
For any type of weight gain, there are only 3 options:
1. Diet and exercise
2. Weight reducing medications - like oralistat and lorcaserin.
3. Surgical treatment - bariatric surgery
In your situation medications or surgical treatment is usually not preferred as an initial treatment. So we should stick with diet and exercise.
Frequent small feeds high in fibre- 3 meals and 4 low calorie snacks is the key. Do regular aerobic exercise 30 minutes a day.
B. Pregnancy
Pituitary hormones are needed for ovulation and regular menstruation. Here you lack LH and FSH.LH/FSH injections are available. You can have pregnany with help of these injections.
Wishing you good health.
