Question: Hi there I am 8 days post FESS, Septo & Turbinate reductions, I have followed the saline wash x2 a day with some relief but then a few hours later the sinus's fill up again and the head pressure is pretty constant, laughing and coughing are painful and my top gums hurt only when cough or laugh. I'm pretty miserable and see my ENT tomor morning. My question is now that my sinus are opened more will they just clog up that much more now? and when will the post nasal drip and stuffiness go away? Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Post nasal discharge for 1-2 weeks is normal following FESS

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear. Thanks for your query on HCM.

According to me a small amount of discharge(blood tinged) is normal & is seen for 1 – 2 weeks following septoplasty and turbinate surgery. This may be either from the front of the nose, or down the back of the throat(post nasal drip) as you have rightly mentioned.

Yes post nasal drip subsides over 2-3 weeks time and the surgery actually reduces post nasal drip if you had this symptom even before FESS.Once the sinus heal it gets adequate ventilation(air flow) & becomes dry -(FESS removes congestion and facilitates smooth air flow and removes infection pockets in your sinus prevention recurrence of infection).

Baseline is FESS->improves sinus function->No discharge/headache/heaviness or pressure of sinus.

Continue saline wash as advised.
