Suggest Treatment For Rashes On Back And Raised Itchy Bumps

default
Posted on Tue, 1 Sep 2015
Question: My 7 year old daughter woke up with a rash all over her back that consists of tiny raised bumps, mostly flesh-colored (I will attach a pic, but it's hard to see). She says it is extremely itchy. She had something similar just at the top part of her back a couple weeks ago after leaving her swimsuit on after swimming and she felt the tag was bothering her. But this time she did not have wet clothes on (unless she was sweating at night).

Brief Answer:
Miliaria rubra; topical soothing lotion and avoid hot weather

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I have taken note of your query and I have also reviewed the Image.
I can see a red, bumpy rash in this Image.
This looks like a heat rash i.e Miliaria Rubra. Miliaria rubra is more common in hot, humid and sweaty weather conditions. It is extremely itchy.
I suggest that you use a soothing, anti-itch lotion e.g calamine lotion, over the affected area, thrice daily Or more frequently. Hydrocortisone cream is also going to work fine for Miliaria rubra.
Staying in Air Conditioned room would help resolve the rash faster.
You may also give her 1 tsf of cetrizine syp, twice daily for symptomatic relief from itching.

Regards
