Question : I have experienced bouts of itching of the skin for about a year. I also have whelps and bumps that at times turn into an open sore. An allergist informed me I was allergic to all dairy products, slightly to beef. Another test was done two weeks ago by my internist and those results were the dairy products as well as wheat. I have also eliminated wheat from my diet but continue to itch. I was instructed to take a Benedryl every 8 hour but am still experiencing the itching. I live relative close to Vanderbilt and would like to set up an appointment for an evaluation. Do I go to an allergist or dermatologist?

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to health care magic.
Itching, wheel and flare, that you are experiencing, are sign symptoms of an allergic reaction.
To avoid an allergic reaction You need to identify what triggers it and for that you need testing.
You should book an appointment with allergist for skin testing, in which doctor would put common allergens on your skin and will look for any sort of allergic reaction.
If it's positive you will feel itch and sting, like a mosquito bite, while rash will develop on your skin.
Its a fairly simple test and many allergens can betested in single sitting.
Thank you for choosing health care magic.
