Suggest Treatment For Severe Fever And Cough While On Calpol And Meftal-P
Question: Hi Doctor,
My one year old had slight fever (temp 99-100) and cold before a week.Temperature dropped down in 24hrs after giving Calpol and Meftal-P with antibiotic. He had chest cold and cough hence we continued macbery and CODISTAR syrups as doc advised.for past three days my kid has cold and sweaty hands n thighs(hand and leg Palms are not cold).And hes passing less urine his diapers are not heavy.I called up the doc he said nothing to worry and asked us to give advent antibiotic and piriton cough syrup one spoon each for two days and the chillness and sweating will be alright.Kindly let me know what could be the reason for this and should i go to a hospital for consultation.

Hi,
As per your description the kid is doing good except for temperature and runny nose. The temperature seems fair and not to worry. Since the extremities are warm there is good blood supply there.
However the kids health can deteriorate anytime. So regular monitoring is advisable especially the temperature every 4 hours. If you cannot do this monitoring at home it is better to consult Pediatrician at hospital.
Otherwise you can just follow the regular Pediatrician orders over phone.

Thank you for your response Doctor,I have been checking the temperature after he got this chillness on hands its inbetween 95.4 to 95.7 looks little low.Can I give him regular diet and make him sleep in a room with mild ac.Is there any precautions that I need to follow to improve his health and condition.Will the chillness go away itself naturally after the medications.How long will it take for him to get rid of the chillness and sweating. Could you please let me know what is the cause for less urination

The temperatures are absolutely non worrisome and does not need medication.
Just give him normal food that is warm and freshly made. Give him normal diet. Better is rice kichdi, barley water and soups. Avoid any stuff from the refrigirator. It has to be made fresh. Reduce the amount of milk if possible as it can come into the nose and block it. It can cause mucus building in.
He needs rest, fluids and monitoring. He will recover quickly.
He should settle down in a day or two.
Less fluids lead to less urination. So increase fluids.
