Question : While I was shaving I heard a pop come from where my trachea is at with instant pain and difficulty swallowing. The pain has decreased through out the day but now when I touch my throat it feels like a bruise and i have discoloration to the neck now. Most of the pain is just below the hyoid. It is now a little easier to swallow. What could it be?
Brief Answer:
It would soon be fine.

Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
The larynx is the voice box, through which the air enters our respiratory tract before it reaches the lungs. The larynx is covered by a cartilagenous structure called epiglottis which prevents the food from entering into the respiratory tract. It seems that somehow the epiglottis was stuck while you were swallowing, and the pain ensued. Since these structures are located behind the hyoid and thyroid, you felt the pain there.
You need not worry. It would soon be fine. Gurgling with lukewarm water should provide relief.
