Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

The bilateral leg swelling may be a side effect of amlodipine. If you were my patient I would recommend to stop amlodipine for a couple of days.

If the leg swelling then amlodipine is causing your symptoms for certain and you should discuss with your doctor about substituting amlodipine with another preparation to control your BP.

Hope this will be of help!

Thanks for the advice. My doctor recently doubled the dose of amlopidine from 5 to 10 mg daily. On Wednesday, I had a glass 6 oz of grapefruit juice same time I took my meds. Do you think that combination would have led to recent experience of swelling in both legs. If so, will it resolve over the next few days? Thanks.

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

As I said above the leg swelling is a side effect of amlodipine. Since this side effect is dependent on the dose of amlodipine it was caused by increasing amlodipine dose.

The combination of grapefruit juice with amlodipine has no effect on leg swelling. However you shouldn't worry about leg swelling. If you will return back to previous dose of amlodipine 5 mg the leg edema will disappear within a couple of days.

Hope this will be of help!
