Question: Hi, my one year old daughter is doing vomiting a lot. She did 6 times from 6am till 8 am. Last night i visited some place where her milk got changed and also i suspect it may be due to last night sudden weather change. It was cold. Whatever water she takes she vomit after some time. I tried to breast feed her and made her sleep but dis vomit that also. Please suggest.

Brief Answer:
ORS is the mainstay of treatment

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. It seems that your daughter has an episode of gastritis or food poisoning. Indeed it seems to be due to contaminated milk but improper hand hygiene could also be contributory. In any case, you need to give your child some antiemetic like ondansetron as and when needed, especially before feeds (15 min-30 min prior to feeds). The mainstay of treatment is breast milk and ORS (oral rehydration solution). Unless the lost salts and fluids are replenished the child would become dehydrated. The urine output needs to be monitored. If the frequency comes down it indicates dehydration and calls for additional supplementation of fluids. But if the child becomes lethargic you would need to take her to a hospital without delay.

You need to be patient. The vomiting may persist for a couple of days before it resolves.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
