Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat, Head Congestion, Sneezing And Chills

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Feb 2016
Question: Woke up today with a sore throat, which then moved on to head congestion. As the day processes, I feel worse and now have the chills. I've been laying low, treating symptoms with Ibpropen, drinking fluids and taking a nasal decongestant inhaler. Still sneezing a lot. Nasal discharge is clear.
I'm a bit concerned since I had these symptoms three times since coming back from Florida in the middle of November, minus the chills. I took the flu shot in October. I would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for sending the question.

It sounds like you're dealing with a viral sinusitis. Symptoms of congestion, drainage, sore throat, fatigue, chills and fever can all go along with this particular entity.

It sounds like you may have been unlucky to have several episodes in the recent past.

We generally recommend a good supportive care including hydration, plenty of good rest, good diet and adequate hydration. Symptoms should slowly resolve within the next several days. if for some reason your symptoms do not improve within 3 to 5 days then you might check in with your primary care doctor for a good physical examination to see if any other considerations are needed.

Thank you again for sending your question.

Sincerely,

Dr. Galamaga
