Question: since past 3 days I have sour throat, running nose and sneezing. I took roxid and parasetamol tablet as prescribed by my family doctor over call but it did not helped me much. Today I changed the antibiotic from roxid to amoxicillin presuming that it's a better one and continued with paracetamol tablet as I have mild fever too. Can u please suggest if I should continue with this, if not then which medical should I take?

attaching the picture inside of my throat. Also, I have allergy and therefore i usually take citrizin tablet whenever there is a change in the climate

thanks

Brief Answer:
You dont need antibiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for your query.

I have seen your photograph. You have signs of congestion. Not much evidence of bacterial infection. Some pitting in the tonsils but no pus or white spots.

If roxid didnt have much effect on your symptoms, then it means that you are probably suffering from a viral. In virals antibiotics do not have much effect. They only suppress superinfection with bacteria.

Taking roxid for 3 days and then switching to amoxicillin will cause side effects of both medicines and may also cause resistance in bacteria.

I would suggest that you take cetirizine and paracetamol. Cetirizine will help with runny nose and sneezing. Paracetamol will help with fever and discomfort. These are to be taken only when respective symptoms are present. Lozenges etc will help too.

This episode will subside spontaneously in a few days.

Hope it helps.

Brief Answer:
Yes it is fine

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

Yes it is ok (and much needed) to take bath with warm water during fevers. It washes away the dirt (and toxins) from your body surface.
