Question: 65 year old mother is experiencing swelling of feet and ankles, dizziness and low back pain on right side. She takes medication for high blood pressure. Wondering if maybe it's not working as it should anymore? She has a history of kidney infections but says the back pain is not like the kidney infection back pain she has experienced. Back pain is not severe.

Brief Answer:
Calcium-blocker drugs,renal failure,arthritis...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

The swelling on your feet and ankles might be partially related to the medication for high blood pressure she might be taking (if calcium-channel blockers like nifedipin or amlodipin).

Another reasons include:
- infection of kidneys: urine analysis, urine culture, kidney function test and abdominal ultrasound is needed

- high blood pressure might have caused damages to the kidney thus giving the symptoms she is currently experiencing

- rheumatismal issues might be another cause: X-ray of lumbar vertebral column is advised for further evaluation

Hope it helped!
