Question : Fell in shower two weeks ago and landed on my lower back just above butt (muscle area). Within a few hours entire area turned purple. No discomfort walking or moving around and I am almost bruise free. However, I still have swelling (localized to the impact area). Rough size is around 8" width by 5" height. This swelling or lump came up at the same time as the bruising did. Area is somewhat tender to the touch. After being XXXXXXX the area is hard to the touch. If resting then it is softer. The area always feels warm to the touch. At times it feels like the lump is reducing in size and at other times it feels like there is no improvement. I have been using Arnica and hot compresses a couple of times a day. Question(s): is there a better treatment method and how long does this sort of thing take to heal/reduce in size? I have read that this is most probably a hematoma? Any advice is appreciated.

                                    Brief Answer:
Haematoma
Detailed Answer:
Hi Thanks for your question,
If you could send me a picture of the area then I may be able to give you a more accurate diagnosis.
It does however sound like a haematoma which is a collection of blood under the skin. There is no specific treatment and it will likely resolve spontaneously but this can take 1-2 months or longer. The size may vary over time.
I hope this answers your question.
Best wishes
