Suggest Treatment For Tachycardia During 6th Month Of Pregnancy

default
Posted on Thu, 14 Jan 2016
Question: I'm almost 6 month pregnant. I have had tachycardia ( 100+, yesterday as high as 134) due to a just discover thyroid nodule. Doctors (ob & endo) don't want to treat either issue. They tell me to stay off my feet. Is this good enough. I'm worried how high it will go when I'm in labor. Do I need a cardiologist?

Brief Answer:
get evaluated for hyperthyroidism

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to HCM,
Yes you should seek a cardiologist opinion, as tachycardia during pregnancy which in itself is a high output state in absence of any anaemia per se needs complete evaluation. A thyroid nodule if detected should be further evaluated with a thyroid profile to look for T3, T4 and TSH levels to establish or rule out any hyperthyroidism at present.
As you are already 6 months pregnant, you may be given antithyroid pregnancy safe medications like propylthiouracil if you are detected to be hyperthyroid for the tachycardia.
If the episode is anxiety induced, then relaxation exercises and pregnancy yoga can help you overcome it.
I hope i have answered your query, Wishing you safe pregnancy.
Regards
