Detailed Answer:
Hello.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

If you refer to a vaginal yeast infection ,the best way would be to get a swab test to examine the secretions.

Usually the symptoms caused from a yeast infection are very typical.
Even in other localization of the yeast infection ,the diagnosis can be done with physical examination.

Usually an antifungal cream like Clotrimazole or Miconazole is suggested twice a day for 1-2 weeks.
If it is a fungal infection ,it will respond to the treatment.
If the symptoms don't improve in 1 week ,then most likely it is not a fungal infection.

Hope this helps.
Let me know if you need further help.

Thanks. I've looked through the symptoms of yeast infections, but they don't seem to quite fit exactly, but I can't seem to find anything else that fits either. I tried the symptom checker on webmd and yeast infection was the most likely candidate. I don't have any itching though and I've had some discharge, but it's liquid and yellowish not white and 'like cottage cheese'. Is it possible that it's still a yeast infection or something else going on?

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

A yellow discharge ,with no itching or burning in vulva ,is less likely to be a yeast infection.
If this yellow discharge has a foul odor (fishy odor) it might be a common bacterial infection called bacterial vaginosis.
If the discharge is moderate, it doesn't have a foul odor ,you don't have any other symptom like irritated red-itching vulva ,painful urination, painful intercourse ,abdominal pain ,then is doesn't seem of concern.
You can give it some time(1-2 weeks) to see if it will resolve.
If the discharge persist or it has bad odor ,you need to see a doctor and get examined.A swab test to examine the vaginal secretions is necessary to determine the cause of the infection.
The treatment will depend upon the right cause.

Take care.

I'd say the discharge is a little more than moderate, but there isn't really a smell. I haven't experienced any itching, but I have had some tenderness/irritation that burns when urine comes in contact with the area. There hasn't been any abdominal pain or painful intercourse, however.

Hello again.

Considering the symptoms and the fact that you have had protected intercourse ,it doesn't seem to be of great concern.
Since the symptoms started recently ,I would suggest to give it some more days and if the symptoms persist consult a physician for examination.
Try to keep the genital area clean, wash it will warm water ,avoid soaps and irritants.
Wear cotton underwear.

Let me know if you need any clarifications.I would be happy to answer.

Take care.
