Posted on Tue, 25 Nov 2014
Question: For the last 3 days, I am doing all the right things. I am:
1) Riding bicycle 2 miles a day and walking 1 mile.
2) Eating mostly fruits and veg's, almost no meat.
3) No alcohol.
4) lowering my stress.
5) eating NO grease or fat, except almonds and sunflower seeds.

How long before this lowers my BP?

I knew I forgot something...and of course I have lowered drastically my salt intake.

Brief Answer:
Low salt & no stress- takes a few days.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for a great and specific question.

Your mentioning the Blood Pressure recordings at least of the last three times would help me to answer the query.
Please post the readings.

The most major factors in lowering the increased blood pressure are :
Lowering the salt intake strictly
and
Lowering or having no stress at all.
If you maintain these two things strictly the blood pressure should be maintained in the normal range within a few days.
Other measures you have adopted will help in a long run.

I hope this answers your query , please feel free to ask any further clarification.

My blood pressure after 6 readings are all pretty close:
150/90
158/90
150/95
150/90
155/95
150/90
Plus the last 5 days I have a new symptom, the light head and dizziness several times a day.
Looks like I will go to doctor to get BP medicine.
If I lose 20 lbs to reach my ideal weight, I can then get off the BP medicine?
I talked to an old man today, 90 years old, he said HIS doctor said he should drink 1 oz of whiskey every day. Is that true???
Thanks Doctor, have a great day. Thank you for helping people on the other side of the world. Namaste'.

Brief Answer:
You are right ...

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your appreciation and feedback.
Yes, you are right, you have to consult a Doctor to start on the medicines for lowering the BP as you are getting symptoms of it- namely light head and dizziness; anxiety can add to all these problems.

Loosing weight along with reduced salt intake and no stress can make you off the medicines.

Oh, dear friend the old man is right but how can one have that limit to 1 Oz, people tend to increase the dose and this effect of lowering BP wears off. This is bit tricky.

Take care, since you have such an understanding I am sure you are going to have a normal range BP very very soon.
Have a great and healthy life.
