Question : I have a staghorn kidney stone which I ha open surgery fo 15 years ago. It was unsuccessful as most of my internal organs are stuck together with scar tissue due to sjgorens mctd. I have left lower andominal pain but also have IBS. The stone has branches in my spleen and I ended up with over 100 staples and still have the stone which is increasing in size. 15 yrs ago I was told I nearly died and shouldn't risk this op again. Now my new consultant wants to do it by utheral means and that didn't works before either. I am scared. I am 64 and had a Cva in the past. What shall I do.

Brief Answer:
Proceed for the suergery

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

Transurethral route is much safer compared to the open surgery.

With stone for such a long time can cause serious problems to your kidney and trouble more then the complication that can be expected from a transurethral procedure.

if the surgery fails there would be no considerable problem other than hospitalization for a day or two.

I recommend you to take this chance and get the stone removed.

Wish you good health.
