Question: 52 yo female with cdiff for 1year has just had 2nd seizure in 4 months is there any correlation between cdiff and seizures ?. No family history of seizure disorder. MRI and EEG from XXXXXXX 2015 read as normal. Pt is s/p fecal transplant a month ago. Diarrhea gone for 7 days. pcp is recommending Keppra. Patients believes seizures are related to die off of cdiff which releases a neuro toxin and is resisitant to Keppra. Pt has mild hypertension on Micardis 20mg QD.

Brief Answer:
There is a correlation between cdiff and seizures.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your query and understand your concerns.

The only way known about clostridium difficile causing seizures is by dehydration and electrolytes depletion it causes through diarrhea.

Dehydration and electrolytes imbalance cause metabolic dysfunction of neurons, predispositing seizures.

Keppra is a correct treatment for seizures.

In my opinion, in this case treating clostridium difficile infection and correcting any fluids and electrolytes disbalances should stop seizures too.

Hope this helps. I remain at your disposal for further questions or clarifications.

Best regards.
