Wearing Dentures, Have Abrasion In Gums, No Bleeding. Worried About Oral Cancer
Question: I am a 36 year old male. I wear a denture on the top of my mouth. I have been wearing the denture since age 21. My denture hasn't been fitting great lately since i haven't realigned in awhile, and I am realigning the denture soon. I am really afraid to go to the dentist, and I have abrasion in the front of the bone in the gum. It's been there for probably 4-5 months (maybe longer) and like a very mild abrasion in the bathroom, but in the sunlight it looks a little red. I am scared of oral cancer since having a denture can give you that sometimes. It hasn't changed in the 4-5 months since I noticed it, doesn't bleed, feels kind like part of the bone when i touch it. It's kind of circular shape. I am hoping it's just the bone rubbing up against the denture causing it but im not sure. I can send pictures when i can take an accurate one. One question is if it hasn't changed in four or five, and doesn't bleed or not like an ulcer or open am I fine or should i be worried? Thank you.

Your explanation regarding the change in the upper anterior appears to be related to your denture.
If denture is irritating at particular area for longer time it can causes such reactions. It is called irritational fibrosis or denture hyperplasia. In many cases if denture is corrected usually it regresses, in few cases it needs to be excised by dentist [it’s a simple procedure].
You do not have to worry about the lesion. Please visit the dentist so that he can modify the irritating part of the denture. Also please note it is better to change the dentures once in 5 years so that fit and function of the denture remains optimal.

Thank for answering my question. I am meaning to see the dentist but I feel a little overwhelmed. I brush my teeth twice a day and use Listerine but my mouth still gets usual things. Please follow up:
In my inner lip I was told i likely have linctus planus by a dentist on Healthcare magic (after providing photos)...it's 4 white dots doing down my inner lip.
Around that area, in my upper lip, it turns purple and red when i fold my upper lip. I am not sure if there's a red spot there all the time or if i just fold my lip up. It's not raised. It's not painful.
Also, I have a thin white line that forms a semi circle in my upper lip. This is sligtly raised. Not painful.
Lastly, I have a very small dark purple spot under my tongue--also non-painful.
With all this, i am very nervous about seeing a dentist--I hope you can provide information. I am scared and very afraid of cancer. Thanks.

Brushing should be done ideally thrice daily, Once as soon as you get up, immediately after your morning break-fast, and immediately after last food of the day. Brushing should be done with tooth brush with soft bristles and tooth paste containing fluoride. The simple procedure of brushing is upper teeth downwards and lower teeth upwards.
You said that you have Lichen Planus. It is either curable /at least controllable by applying intra oral steroids ointment, if required oral steroid tablets for short period of time[to be prescribed by dentist, not by self medication].
The dark purple spot under the tongue appears to be normal prominent blood vessels in the region, do not worry.
The symptoms what you have are all benign not cancer, just relax and consult dentist.

Thank you for the response. I am very worried about it because with my oral health history, it seems like I am a high risk category. Also I have a question about TMJ.
My symptoms are mild most of the time, but at times there is ringing and pressure inside the ear where it's bad. When I swallow at times, I tend to feel the muscles on the left side of my in the front of neck and you can even see the muscles in my neck are more predominant on the left side. I am guessing this is TMJ related. Do you concur?

You are not in high risk category. .
Ringing and pressure inside the ear has nothing to do with the TMJ in your case. Kindly consult ENT specialist for further evaluation.
Depending on the body stature some people do have prominent muscles/ ligaments, however in your case physical examination by dentist will clarify you.

One last question if I may:
I have three missing bottom teeth and I have one back moller. It's been like that for 14 years.
At the bottom of the bump towards the cheek, there is long narrow lump that's been there for probably about 1 year. Is it cartilage from the gum tissue? It almost feels connected to the gum but it's moveable. Any ideas?

It may not be cartilage, It may be fibrous tissue, dentist will suggest when go for check up whether to retain or to re contour it before making prosthesis.
I saw some example on the web, and they are white and seem like they are filled with liquid. Mine is colorless and not round...more narrow. I heard you have to get it biopsied.
I cannot afford this and I am totally overwhelmed with these issues. I also have purple marks on my cheek under my dentures. It's really upsetting and i feel like I ruined my life by not taking better care of myself.

The roughness shall be there in few regions as the oral cavity is exposed to different temp./consistency of food/ taste of food. I do not feel biopsy is must when I read the description of the lesion.
Use soft/extra soft tooth brush for brushing teeth.
