Brief Answer:
Probably low risk but not zero. More information also needed for this!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this unprotected receptive anal sex you were involved in. Your worries are real and the chances of contracting HIV from unprotected intercourse are real. Considering all the information you have provided, no ejaculation, brief encounter and no bleeding, the chances are not as huge as in someone who would have experienced ejaculation, bleeding and longer duration.

However, these chances are not zero. With your partner saying he is HIV negative, though can not be totally taken for the truth, it offers some hope for us to hang unto.

The best way to know what the risk and your status is would be to do a test. if your partner could get a rapid HIV test, then you would be double sure about his status. If it is negative, then there is nothing to worry about. Otherwise, I will advice you to get a rapid HIV test now and follow up with PCR after 21 days to identify what your status is.

Going crazy now would not be of any additional help. The way forward is to get tested. Also, we have post exposure prophylaxis that may be considered in your case if there is any further information that suggests the risk was is higher than currently projected.

I hope this addresses your query fully. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Thanks for answering my question. I have a couple more. If I take an hiv test after 30 days and it is negative is there a likely chance in another 3 months I will still be negative?

Brief Answer:
Depends on the type of test done!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

If you get to do a PCR test which looks for the virus, then beginning 21 days after the incident offer conclusive information on your status. The downside is that this test is very expensive ad not readily available everywhere.

If you use the classical rapid test, then you would need to continue testing for up to three months for conclusive information about this. This is cheap and readily available. The downside is that you would have to wait for long periods before getting final answers.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Always available to address any further queries!

If I start eating fruits and eating vegetables and drink lots of fluid how long should it take for my bowels to go back to normal

Answered by Dr. Ivo Ditah (10 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Would notice improvement within a week!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

This would be a process but within a week, there would be some improvement. However, carrying on with the activity as part of your daily lifestyle would make great changes. This would lead to regular and softer stools in the long run.

I hope this helps and keep me updated.

When I use the bathroom I see yellow mucus in my stool could this be because of constipation? What is the reason for this
doctor
Answered by Dr. Ivo Ditah (8 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Unless you have a problem like pain, anal discharge, do not get bothered!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Yellow mucus on stool without any other symptoms is not a major concern. If there are any other symptoms like discharge from the anus, pains, etc. This may be suggestive of an infection. If there are no symptoms, this would most likely be normal.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information if need be.
