Question : ldl is 137 mg\dL hdl is 58 mg\dL cholesterol is 223mg\dL I'm 63 yo. Dr said cholesterol is "fine". Why isn't this considered high?

Detailed Answer: Hello XXXX Thanks for writing to XXXXXXX Your lipid profile is not fine.It is borderline high.You are at risk of getting cardiovascular diseases.You need regular monitoring of your lipid profile. Normally cholesterol level should be below 200 mg/dl.You have borderline high values.By definition borderline high value is 200-239 mg/dl. Same is the case with LDL. Ideally it should be below 100 mg/dl.It is also borderline high.By definition borderline high values is 130-159 mg/dl. HDL level is good. Your condition can be managed by diet alteration and life style changes. You should increase your physical activity in the form of exercise and walking. Take lot of green leafy vegetables and fruits in your diet. Avoid smoking,alcohol,red meat,saturated and trans fat,high fat containing dairy products.
