Question : my child had an scratch by dogs nail.and by mistake he was been given inj rabipur intragluteally.is my child in risk of any sideeffects

                                    Brief Answer:
No side effects because of intra gluteal injection
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
Rabipur is injected into the anterolateral (front and outer side) region of the thigh in small children.
It must not be given by intra-gluteal injection.
Gluteal region is not recommended because the fat present in this
region slows the absorption of antigen and hence impairs the generation of
optimal immune response.
However there is no need to worry for any side effects to intra gluteal injection in your child.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Dr.Vivek

No need to worry for vaccination part
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.
You have followed the standard medical advise when scratched by a known dog. This is very common and the dog might have done it as a friendly behaviour towards the child. I have seen many such children getting small scratches from a dog and other than vaccination nothing else needs to be done. As mentioned above there will be no side effects from intra gluteal injection and as the dog is doing well it is not infected by rabies.
Hope your query is answered.
