What Are The Signs And Symptoms Of Acanthosis Nigricans?

default
Posted on Fri, 2 Jun 2017
Question: Dante's been told he is pre diabetic. My question, as his grandmother, and one who cares for him a lot, what exactly does that mean? Will he definitely become a diabetic, or can it be prevented. I'm assuming his recent bloodwork concluded this. Also, he has some kind of dark ashy skin on the back of his neck, and dark armpits too. I believe that is what caused the initial suspicion by his dr.

Brief Answer:
Yes, it can be prevented.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your question.
I can understand your concern.

From your description, I can deduct that Dante's problem may be a condition called Acanthosis nigricans.

This a skin condition characterized by areas of dark discoloration in body folds and creases (most often armpits, neck, and groin) The affected skin can become thickened.

Children who develop the condition, usually are overweight or obese and it is true that they are at higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

But my answer for you is: It is possible to prevent pre-diabetes from becoming Type 2 Diabetes.

The most effective thing for him at this moment are to improve the way how he eats and move more. If he loose weight, eat healthy and do regular exercise, he can fight back against diabetes, it is sure.

Hope this information is helpful. If you have other questions, feel free to ask. I'll be happy to help.

Best regards.
