default
Posted on Thu, 29 May 2014
Question: 65 yr male strong pain left side starting just below rib cage. Seemed higher a week ago so attended emer at hospital as I had had a heart attack ( stents needed ) 12 months earlier. Spent day in hospital with no conclusive reason for pain. While in hospital 12 months ago had extreme pain a little higher than present pain. After what seemed like an overkill in the number of test done it was determined it was perhaps? An upper bowl blockage. 12 months ago had lymnth gals in left armpit removed following the removal of the 4 the melanoma from my back. Vietnam Vet suffering PTSD and depression. For years drank to excess smoked a min 25 cigs a day and had also turned to marihuana to get through the nights. With the help of hypnosis some six weeks ago stopped smoking both cigs and dope. Mentally have not felt this good for over 20 yrs but this continuing return of pain is getting me down. This morning 7.50 am the pain is strong and is worse each time I breath. Was about to head off to emer depart( sat morn ) so my Doc is not avail but as they found no reason for the pain ( with pain killers it went away each time ) each time thought why??? Bother. Not usually into computers but had a light bulb moment and grabbed recently purchased IPAD so here I am.

Brief Answer:
needs re-evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

I have read your query. You seems to be having this problem of pain below the rib cage since a week. This morning the pain in strong.

With your background medical history, I would suggest that you do not ignore this, and please go to the ER again for review evaluation.

The pain is getting worse with each breath, it is perhaps irritating the lung covering or the pleura causing pleuritis. It can be other underlying lung pathology due to long standing smoking history.

Although you were evaluated a week back at the Emergency, we still cannot rule our a fresh heart attack or mild ischemia again. Hence, I would suggest you to get the re-evaluation done.

You probably require a chest x-ray this time again, if done earlier. Do not ignore this pain.

Get well soon.
