What Causes HSV 2 Infection?

Posted on Thu, 21 May 2015
Question: Hello
I visited you guys on February 28,2015. I had some lesions on my vaginal area. They finally went away in about a week. Well on April 13,2015 the lesions reappeared. Now I'm
terrified so afraid of what might be,but hoping and praying it wasn't a STD virus. So I decided to make an appointment with my OB Dr,he took Aswan of the lesions. Doctor's nurse called me on last Friday to tell me that I've contacted HVS2 and there was no cure and he called a script in to help suppress the lesions in a nutshell. OMG I was devastated, confused, and totally discombobulated. All kinds of thoughts, questions, how's,and wows attacked me. This can't be happening to me in disbelief. So I researched more info and now I'm more confused.OMG. The ideal of my soul mate is over OMG.PLEASE PLEASE help me to understand this dreadful virus. I'm so confused. Internet says, when a person is infected it takes about 2 to 4 weeks. So does this mean my first out break in February was when I was infected? But then it also says, this virus can lay dormant in ones body. OMG I'M SO CONFUSED. I had a serious relationship that ended in July2014. I've moved on and have a current boyfriend since December 2014. Could I have been infected in July OR when I had my first outbreak in February? I've NEVER NEVER had this happen to me. I've always had one partner and can count them on one hand. Do I need to go for lab work to conform everything OMG? Please help me to figure this out. I'm getting no rest.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOU HELP

Brief Answer:
HSV 2 can be dormant in body for a long time, happens to a lot of people

Detailed Answer:
Dear patient,

first of all: please try to not feel so bad about yourself or worry too much, since most of the population has dormant HSV1 and/ or HSV 2 virus sleeping/ dormant in body. It is just a very common thing unfortunately.

At what time you got infected really can not be said for sure afterwards, since in the beginning it doesnt always break out so it could be from any of your partners. Chances are the first infection was in february though, but it might have been transferred earlier too. It is correct that there is no "cure" in that sense to completely get it out of your body. BUT: if there is any outbreak there is effective treatment for that. Special lab work is not necessary since it is already pretty much proven by a swab. So if you can please try to not worry about it too much since the outbreaks are usually easy to control, so that you can count on a lot of "outbreak free" time, especially when you are not worried or stressed since that can make outbreaks come more easily.

Wishing you all the best, take care

Hope this is helping you , if you have any clarificatons you can get back to me, if this was helpful please kindly rate my answer. Best regards

Oh wow!
Being that my first outbreak was in February would you say that's probably when i was mostly infected? OtherWise I would have possibly already had an outbreak back sooner. Oh wow what do I do from here relationship? What do I tell my boyfriend who I've been with for about 5/6 months, who very well could hasv passed this dreadful virus on to me without and or knowly? I What makes the virus active if it has been dormant? How do you know if there is never an outbreak in ones body? OMG so this virus continues to multiple from partner to partner without any knowledge? So what do you do? How does one knows this virus is laying dormant? So what do you do? How can you have a relationship based on this or sexually active? OMG I'm 42 years, and planned to be married one day and now Omg. How does a person fine out if they're dormant who has no outbreaks? OMG!
Thank you so much I will try not to worry as much, but it's so hard. Thanks

Brief Answer:
Outbreak in feb or before, only outbreaks to be treated and stress prevent.

Detailed Answer:
Dear patient,

as i mentioned the beginning of infection can't be said for sure. All one can do is treat outbreaks, since virus is dormant permanently. New relationships no problem, anyone can have HSV dormant in body, no reason to never have relationships anymore. Virus gets active through stress or heavy immune suppression like severe diseases or medication, otherwise not. A person can find out if they are dormant through antibodies in blood. Tell your ex boyfriend he should get checked and use condoms. Use condoms before you know peoples/ new partners std history through blood test.

All the best again,
