Question : I have a pea sized lump in the upper part of my scrotum (above the testicles) which is very tender. It is sometimes painful when not being touched but is very painful when touched. I am 72 years old and had a vasectomy when I was about 50 year old. Could this be an emergency requiring immediate treatment?

Could my condition be "testicular torsion"? If so, wikipedia said I should go to a hospital emergency room for tests and possible surgery.

The lump is in the upper right part of my scrotum.

Brief Answer:
Certainly not an emergency!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this lump. There is no need for an emergency at this time. Torsion in someone of your age would be history. This could be related to the vasectomy. I suggest that you get a regular appointment and get this evaluated by your primary care doctor. If there is need for pain relief, take a combination of tylenol and ibuprofen.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
