What Causes A Small Hard Pus Filled Lump On The Leg And Torso?

default
Posted on Thu, 14 Apr 2016
Question: I am a 57 year old man. I have had a small hard lump ( smaller than a dime) at the juncture of my leg and my torso. It expressed some bloody pus once. It has been there for several months. I have noticed that it itched. I noticed the other day that it had become over twice the size it was before. It expressed the same bloody pus as before...only once. It is beneath the top layer of skin and feels "roundish". Could this be an infected lymph gland. Or could it be worse? Any help is appreciated.

Hi Dear !! Thanks for your query to HCM.
Read and reviewed facts of your query in context to your health concern of growing sub-cuticular lump on the foot.
Based on the facts of your query, In My opinion, you don't seem to suffer from infected lymph gland.
I would need more information on contents of this lump.
Whether throbbing is there in the lump before discharge of white pus like material?
What is the consistency like -Toothpaste/ or cheesy / or granular ?
Since when you had the first complaint in the torso ? Whether it is in the joint of first torso and which leg- left / or right?
Does any body in your family(like your parents / or in laws / sister/brother)
has it ?
Do you have similar skin nodules on elbow / knee etc.?

Awaiting till I get more information from you soon.

Welcome for any further query in this regard.

Thank you for your reply. I must have mus-stated the location of the lump. It is located at the top of my left leg, to the left side of the groin area. The discharge was clear, the consistency a little thicker than water, with blood in it. But just on the two isolated times.
I know of no other family occurences of this, and I don't have any similar lesions.

Brief Answer:
Lump in groin / Under Evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Brief Ans-Lump in groin / Under Evaluation

Hi Dear !! Thanks for updating the site / location of the lump, which has made a great difference in coming down to the possibilities you have about the dime sized hard lump with sero-purulent(Pus with watery discharge)and sero-sanguinous (Blood with watery) discharge in the left groin.

In My opinion-
Based on the facts of your query-and site,
You seem to suffer from Boil with pointing head which was squeezed out two times with pus and blood. This later on filled with larger collection and was squeezed with blood / pus with watery clear serous discharge.
Other causes need to be ruled out.
For this I would suggest you to check up with Surgeon, and dermatologist,as the site indicates many causes in preview of both the specialist doctors.
Surgeon- would check out for hair folliclulitis with induration from a pubic hairs, which are due to friction in the ugies line./ or could be post-shaving folliculitis.
The nodular base might be from unripe base of the hair follicle.
This lump could be from Lymph node, which is not the possibility in your case, as you have no STD history- suggesting Chancroid / LGV infection.
Dermatologist would rule out the ringworm with hair follicle infection from jock's itch,as this lump had a itch for a day or two.
Second Opinion from theses 2 specialist would resolve the cause of lump in the groin.

Remedy-
Consult Surgeon who would check the blood sugar and would rule out other causes.
Daily Proper dressing of the wound
Antibiotics -like Tab ofloxacin for 5 days , after Blood sugar check-up to rule out the diabetic cause in your case.
Tab NSAIDs- like Motrin-brufen for 5 days would resolve this lump,as its a small in size.
Adding Tab Metronidazole would fix any other infection in this lump.

Surgical Adequate drainage-
If the recovery is dealyed-Adequate Surgical Drainage of the collapsed mouth of this lump, would speed up the recovery fast.

Hope this would resolve your left groin lump issue in totality.
