What Causes A Small Pus Filled Bump On The Upper Lip?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 May 2016
Question: I was diagnosed with hsv 1 . I had a blister a clear bump filled with clear fluid in mid XXXXXXX It was located on the corner of upper lip.

This morning I saw a tiny bump with white tip on the scar where the scar is (the blister had left a red mark?) it was in the area of where I had the cold sore. I tried to pop it but it wouldn't pop.

My concern is , is that an reoccurring hsv 1?
I went to the doctor. The doctor wasn't helpful. She didn't even want to take a look at bump with white tip I was talking about.

or is it just a coincidence that the pimple is on where my cold sore was?

the blister in XXXXXXX had left a red mark. And now today I see a tiny bump that has a white tip. I tried to pop it with q-tip but it did not pop. I wanted to know if its a reoccurring cold sore/hsv 1 or is it just a coincidence that the pimple occur where my cold sore was?

Brief Answer:
This looks like a pimple.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

From the picture, this looks like a pimple.

HSV often does recur where you've had it before, but it is small fluid filled vesicles/blisters. And painful or at least tingly when it first starts to come out. This looks like the material inside is white and thick rather than clear fluid or pus.

So what to do. I suggest putting warm compresses on it (wash cloth heated up under water) a few times a day. It will likely eventually come to a head or start to resolve.

If, however, you start to see tiny clear fluid filled vesicles near it, or the skin feels painful, then you might be getting an HSV outbreak. But for now, this looks only like an acne type pimple.

I hope this information helps.

it did help. is it possible for the pimple to occur where my cold sore was? I popped it with q-tip last night and this morning it was gone. I used q-tip and rubbed it where the white tip i popped last night. It didnt hurt when I rubbed with q-tip, it felt like nothing. If it was a hsv 1 re occurrence it would hurt at least a bit when I rubbed it right?

I popped it last night. so this morning you can barely see it the white tip is gone, just a very tiny tiny tiny red raised spot like the spot with white tip. except the white tip is gone.

I'm just so worried it might be hsv , and ive washed my washed like regularly i have pimples that i popped on my face. so im afraid it might spread. i know people say its common to have hsv 1. but for me i'm very worried of spreading.

so far i dont see other blister around it. but where i popped it i did feel a very short pain. faint pain. but just that one time last night after couple of hours i popped it.

Detailed Answer:
If it was a herpes vesicle it would have likely been quite painful to manipulate in anyway.

It is possible to have a pimple where there had been an HSV sore.

I don't think this pimple will spread HSV to the rest of your face. HSV I likes the mouth area and can sometimes cause lesions in the genitals too (but not often). It would not cause herpes lesions elsewhere on your face even if the mouth pimple was HSV, and, I don't think it was HSV. I don't think it was HSV because it looked like a solitary pimple, it was not markedly tender, and there were no clear fluid vesicle clusters.

When HSV comes out, it usually appears as a cluster of tiny clear fluid filled vesicles/blisters.

If you were to have a return of the HSV I lesions
1. Get antiviral medicine from your doctor.
2. Don't kiss anyone.
3. Don't have oral sex, and careful to have clean hands when you touch your genitals. It usually stays put in the mouth region, but has slight potential to spread to genitals.
