Brief Answer:
gastrointestinal bleeding...

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

upper gastrointestinal bleeding causes black stool. More than 30mL of blood are required for the stool to turn black. The bleeding usually originates on the stomach or duodenum. Black stool requires urgent investigation for the cause and prompt treatment.

Kind Regards!
