What Causes Blood In Urine?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Jun 2014
Question: I am a 54 year old female and yesterday afternoon I noticed blood in my urine to the point where the urine is red. I am also on Xarelto for a pulmonary embolism I had in December. I have no trouble urinating or any pain. Can I wait and call my doctor tomorrow or should I go to the emergency room? If I don't go to the ER, should I take Xarelto dose tonight?

Brief Answer:
need to be seen as soon as possible in ER

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

It would be best to be seen as soon as possible.

Your blood count needs to be checked to see your haemaglobin level to determine if the bleeding has affected it.
IN addition, the doctors would want to assess your vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, oxygen status) because loss of blood can have an effect on all of these factors.

They would likely also refer you to urology for assessment of the urinary tract.

The anticoagulant is normally discontinued at least temporarily to allow clearance.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
