What Causes Breakthrough Bleeding Post An Abortion?
Question: Hi Doctor, I had my last periods starting on 31st dec to 7th XXXXXXX Usually I use to have 20-25 days cycle, but this time my periods started on 31st XXXXXXX but there was only little flow for 2 days. Then i was normal. But again on 8th feb heavy flow began and fresh red blood is there since then, its 4 days now but the flow is same. I am married and 33 years old and had to abort once in May 2015. Now I am again planning for a baby for last two months. Also got my thyroid test done its normal. Let me know if this bleeding is normal from 8th to 12th day of periods.
Brief Answer:
Urine pregnancy test advised
Detailed Answer:
Hello Mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
No dear it is not very common to have such a bleeding episode so it needs evaluation.
First do a urine pregnancy test and tell me the report as this can be an unrecognised abortion process also.
So in case pregnancy test is positive then we will go for an ultrasound but in case test is negative then wait for your next period cycle and see the pattern of bleeding.
In case next period is normal and well times then nothing to worry otherwise we will investigate further.
Takecare

Hello Doctor, I did the home pregnancy test twice on 26th and 30th and it was negative then. Did I need to do it again?
Brief Answer:
Do it once again
Detailed Answer:
Yes dear though less chances but still better to do it once.
If negative then wait for your next period date and see the pattern.
All the best.

Hello Doctor, Urine pregnancy test is negative. But its 7th day of flow and the flow is increasing day by day. i can see clots now. What do u suggest?
Brief Answer:
Ultrasound advised
Detailed Answer:
Then you need to get an ultrasound done and visit a gynaecologist for examination.
Most common reason for such a presentation is ovarian cyst or an endometrial polyp.
Also you will need to take tranexic acid tablets to control the blood flow and might need hormones even.
So get an ultrasound and in case you need any opinion over that, I will be glad to help.
