Brief Answer:
Anxiety disorder, or peripheral neuropathy should be evaluated.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your query and understand your concerns.

Symptoms you describe seems to be related to peripheral neuropathy, but only three days duration and your age diminish this possibility.

Peripheral neuropathy symptoms can be caused by a number of conditions such vitamin B12 deficiency, diabetes, alcohol use, side effects of certain drugs, nerves compression and trauma etc. so, there is need for more information about your general medical condition such any drugs used, any blood tests done, any trauma, dietary habits, any other symptoms etc.

Another possible condition that may cause your symptoms is anxiety and stress disorder, so if you have been under stress situations lately this may be another possible explanation of your concerns.

I recommend short time use of Duloxetine (one week eg.)that improves stress and neuropathy symptoms too.

Since it is a prescription drug, this should be discussed with your primary care Doctor.

If symptoms persist, there is need for further testing about probable neuropathy by blood tests, nerve conduction studies.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

I remain at your disposal for further questions and clarifications.

Take care.

Brief Answer:
Further tests needed.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

In this case then further investigation needed to diagnose correctly your condition.

Formication, or feeling of ants crawling could have several causes.

One of these is Magnesium deficiency, so blood levels of Magnesium should be measured.

Since there are neurologic symptoms as well such numbness, peripheral neuropathy could be another cause.

HSV infection is one of probable causes of peripheral neuropathy.

First, there is need for nerve conduction studies ( EMG) to assess the electric functionality of peripheral nerves, besides Magnesium level measurement.

Duloxetine is still an option to improve your symptoms.

Further evaluation depends on nerve conduction study results.

Hope I've been of help.

Take care.

Brief Answer:
Cryoglobulinaemia related neuropathy is a probability.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

HCV infection is accompanied by cryoglobulinaemia ( increased blood levels of a certain protein ) in some cases.

Peripheral neuropathy is thought to be one of complications of cryoglobulinaemia and underlying mechanism is probably nerve ischemia.

This is a possibility that needs to be assessed as other possibilities ( mentioned in our previous discussions) should be assessed too.

Hope this helps. Best regards.

Brief Answer:
First steps neurologic examination and nerve conduction study.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

First step in diagnosis of peripheral neuropathy is having a neurological examination and nerve conduction study (EMG) done.

During neurological examination possible causes of neuropathy are evaluated too (example: diabetes, alcohol use, drugs side effects etc.) and further tests are ordered regarding to clinical suspicions.

Treatment if neuropathy is diagnosed, consists on treating the cause and treating symptoms ( Gabapentin, Amytriptiline, Duloxetine).

Hope this helps. Best regards.

Dear dr

I searched the internet and found those two diseases
Mollaret’s meningitis
And multiple sclerosis

What is the posiblity of having either these diseases as iam scared now

And how to diognose them ?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Erion Spaho (9 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Unlikely Mollaret's and Multiple sclerosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

Mollaret's meningitis is a benign recurent inflamation of brain coverings.

I think it's not your case, because meningitis shows a typical clinical picture with headaches, stiff neck, fever, irritated, consciousness problems.

Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease with a remitting/relapsing character, ( symptoms disappear for months eg. and reappear again ).
Symptoms of MS include partial or complete vision loss at one eye, pain during eye movements, weakness, numbness in one limb or one side of the body, double or blurring vision, gait problems, tingling in different parts of the body, slurred speech etc.

First step in diagnosis of these conditions is a careful neurologic examination.

After the neurologic examination results, other tests are ordered. These tests are brain and spinal MRI, spinal tap do draw and examine cerebrospinal fluid, etc.

Regarding to your symptoms, ( tingling, crawling, burning, stinging, chronic discomfort ) without a neurologic pattern distribution, they are not specific symptoms to point towards diseases you mentioned above.

As I mentioned before, in my opinion most probable conditions that may explain your symptoms are stres and anxiety disorder and peripheral neuropathy.

Again, neurologic examination is the cornerstone of evaluating any neurologic disorder.

So, first of all, discuss with a Neurologist your concerns, since this discussion between us is a virtual one and a clinical examination is impossible.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

I remain at your disposal for further questions and clarifications.

Best regards.
