Question : I have burning, painful symptoms in my vaginal area. I have no lesions or sores. This has been going on for about 2 weeks. It's worse if I'm sitting and sometimes laying, better if I stand. I have had all the STD tests done about a month ago and all are negative. (except no HSV test) It's almost like the labia is dry and rubbing causes pain but the sides of my vaginal lips are painful. I thought maybe it was from shaving or hair growing in but no.

need more information
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to healthcare magic. I understand your concern.
I am happy to know that all your investigations are normal. As there are no lesions it might not be STD?
In my opinion before giving you any suggestions I would like to know:-
1)If you had any infective vaginal discharge?
2)Do you have any pain during intercourse?
3)Are your cycles irregular?
4)Do you suffer any hot flushes?
5)Are you under any stress?
6)When was your last period and did you change the brand of sanitary pads you usually use?
Kindly provide me the information.
Looking forward to hear from you.

I have not had any discharge but the vaginal opening seemed to be burning but is not currently. My periods are within days of each other when they should start monthly. I have been under some stress as I've been researching all of these things online thinking it sounded like herpes. My last period was 5/9/15. I have been having this issues since then. I have not had intercourse for 2 months so I'm not sure at this time, I did use condoms when I did though. I want to say I had this in April after my period as well. I have not changed my tampon brand or sanitary pads.

                                    Brief Answer:
Altered sensation might cause it
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for the information.I understand your concern.
Iam happy to.know that you dont have any infective signs or symptoms.
In my opinion the painful ,burning vagina without any associated features like any fungal discharge or infection or any lesions might be termed as vulvodynia.
Here there might be some alteration in the nerves perception leading to burning sensation but the exact cause is not known.
So I suggest you to get an physical examination done to rule out the cause and confirm the diagnosis.
Following simple measures might provide relief like:-
1)Wear loose cotton inners and better avoid inners at night.
2)Avoid scented perfumes ,soaps and deodorants over the area.
3)Wash the area with mild soap.
4)Wash after urination with plain water and XXXXXXX dry.
5)Avoid tight jeans or any tight dresses.
6)Avoid actions causing pressure over the area like cycling ,horse riding etc.
7)Apply cold packs.
8)Try cotton sanitary pads during the periods. It might also be the cause in your case as you had the burning sensation after the periods.
Dont worry it might subside but it might not have definite treatment.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss further.
