Question : After having a Carotid Endarterectomy 12 days ago and the staples removed 5 days later, I'm now having an itchiness and sometimes burning sensation under my chin which is numb to the touch. Is this normal and how long can I expect to have these symptoms?

                                    Brief Answer:
usual afer such procedure
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
Numbness, burning pain or even temporary difficulties in swallowing or talking is commonly seen after carotid surgeries since some smaller neural branches of facial nerve are cut during surgery. This is temporary condition but may last for up to 4 weeks. But in every case, risk for some permanent symptom is negligible so you don't need to worry. Wish you good health. Regards
