Brief Answer:
need more information

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to healthcare magic.I understand your concern.
In my opinion abortion at 5 and half months means it is a midtrimester abortion.
Most common cause of midtrimester abortion is cervical incompetence.
Other less common causes are infections, hormonal imbalances like thyroid abnormalities ,diabetes etc ,uterine anamolies etc.
Before going to discussion I would like to know:-
1)How many years of marital life?
2)Was the first pregnancy and delivery uneventful?
3)Any hormonal evaluation like thyroid profile done?
4)Were you following contraception in these years?
5)Did ultrasound showed short cervix?
6)Was it a normal delivery?
Kindly provide me the information.
Looking forward to hear from you.
Best regards...Dr srilatha

hi Doctor,

This is my second marriage, I have been married for last two years.
My first pregnancy was normal, I delivered a baby boy, healthy!
no hormonal flaw, like thyroid or any other, all was normal.
no contraceptives were followed.
yes that was a normal delivery.

Thanks,
also, the ultra sound did not show any cervical incompetence.

Brief Answer:
CI is surgically correctable

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for the information.I understand your concern.
In my opinion cervical incompetence is suspected in case of midtrimester abortions along with ultrasound diagnosis of short cervix.
As you have no hormonal imbalances and you have already one child and that pregnancy was normal you need not worry as there might be many chances for you to conceive naturally again.
So when you get pregnancy for the next time the short cervix will be known by ultrasound. If cervix length is < 2.5 cm in ultrasound it indicates cervical incompetence(CI).
Then it can be corrected by applying stich around cervix at 10 to 12 weeks of pregnancy.
CI is routinely seen in practice and pregnancy continues normally most of the times after applying the stich.
Also take a gap of 3 months before conceiving again and start taking folic acid tablet one month before planning pregnancy. After pregnancy is confirmed take good rest and avoid physical strain.
So relax and dont take stress.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss furthur.
Best regards...Dr srilatha
