What Causes Changes In Color And Texture Of The Finger Nails?

Question: My wife is 67, and it has recently become very apparent that her fingernails are receding. She is not biting them or clipping them, in fact they are so short there is about 1/4 inch or more of finger extending beyond the nail. We have been told to give her 500 mg of calcium 3/day, and 400 iu of vit D, but we haven't seen any improvement. We've had her blood tested for any kidney or liver related problems. Those tests were all normal. What do you think the problem may be? She has early onset Alzheimer's . Could that be related to the finger nail problem? Thanks for your assistance. Sincerely, XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Orall Vitamin B 7 supplement
Detailed Answer:
Hi. Thank you.
The condition could be likely due to brittle nails which does'nt allow the nails to grow longer. I suggest an Oral Biotin supplement (Vitamin B 7) for her once daily for 3-4 months.
