Im 56 overweight and not very fit but that is unusual I do not smoke drink or take drugs or medications at all normaly only vitamins and progesterone cream 10% for menopause symptoms .I have recently diagnosed Hashimitos but still functional level of thyroid hormone and no history of heart or cholesterol or blood pressure problems .Severe stress in last few years including hospitalisation for domestic violence but was feeling well strong and good energy until onset of what originaly just seemed like a flu???

Detailed Answer:
Hi, the symptoms you describe can either be due to glaucoma or hypertension. I see you already have moderately raised blood pressure. Its probably going higher at night. It could also be cluster headache as you have rightly deduced. There are excellent medicines for cluster headache.Since you have already visited a Neurologist, he would have ruled out a left sided Trigeminal Neuralgia (inflammation in the left fifth cranial nerve that supplies the face), that can also present similarly. I would advise you to visit your Primary care Physician or ER. Blood pressure and glaucoma are easily diagnosed and you will have immediate relief in symptoms with treatment. Cluster headache is the third alternative that he can consider. And finally possibility of Trigeminal Neuralgia can still be considered. Regards

Dear Doctor XXXXXXX
So lovely to hear from you and see your beautiful photo .I am a very spiritual person and all my life been attracted to XXXXXXX since I was a little girl.
I have not been to the neurologist yet but as my sugar levels always test normal and I do not have any history or even family history of blood pressure normally until the terrible stress of this excrutiatingly painful episode .
The explanation of cluster headaches is non existent -my symptoms fit perfectly but there is no explanation on the internet as to what causes cluster headaches ???
I do not want to take medication for anything unless it is totally unavoidable /life threatening -I am more inclined to manage my diet exercise lifestyle and spiritual life for health and cures.
Can you explain to me what causes cluster headaches -Ive never been a headache person before ??
Is there a hormonal connection or cause with cluster headaches what is the role of the hypothalmus and what puts it out of order to cause the cluster headaches .
I did recently go off my 10% natural progesterone cream as I was so sick already and sweating and yet not feeling hot i couldn't see the point as I'm mostly on it to control hot flushes .

I have put myself back on it now just trying to keep everything as normal as possible until I can find out what is wrong and what happened to me.

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, thanks for the compliment. The cause of cluster headache is not known but it is generally considered of vascular origin. The Hypothalamic origin is postulated because the attacks have a certain kind of regularity (which normally happens with problems related to it). There does not seem to be a hormonal connection. I understand you do not want medication, but I have a simple solution for you. Since your Blood pressure has touched 180, 190, 165 at various times--VERAPAMIL would be an ideal drug for you. It will relieve your headaches and also keep your blood pressure under control. It is a very safe drug and is also beneficial to the heart. I would advise you to discuss this with your doctor. It is possible that after a few months your doctor can consider withdrawing it (as I have been able to do in several of my patients with a similar history)-- especially if you go on a diet for hypertension, exercise and meditate. Warm regards
