Question: In the last year I have had three trab. surgeries and one cataract surgery on my right eye. I was NEVER warned before surgery about the possibility of a "bleb" and the constant irritation from the bleb. It constantly feels like I have a grain of sand in my eye and the new Doctor I just came from said it will be like this for the rest of my life. Is there anything that can be done about this ?I am taken combigan twice in the irritated eye and latanaprost in my left eye. I am also useing pataday and refresh.

Brief Answer:
Bleb is required for functioning of the surgery.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care magic

I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an Ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

I reviewed your history.
It seems from the history that you have undergone trabeculectomy surgery for treatment of glaucoma.
The surgery involves creating a alternative pathway for draining the aqueous from the eye by creating a conjunctival bleb.
Hence the bleb is required and presence of good bleb indicates successful surgery.
However sometimes the bleb can cause problems like bleb related inflammation, infection, overfiltration, failure....
You are probably having bleb related inflammation.
This requires treatment by use of topical anti-inflammatory drugs like Bromefenac eye drops.
If it is causing constant problems then bleb revision surgery has to be considered after comparing the risks and benefits of surgery.

Hope I have answered your question and the information is helpful to you.

Thank you
With regards
