Question : HI, My husband is 60 years old and has not been feeling well since August 1. It began with a constant cough, he was put on antibiotics but that didn't; help. The cough got slightly better but he then had malaise, leg cramping , nausea started last week and now he is vomiting. He is generally very healthy but has had something wrong with him for past 6 weeks?????

Brief Answer:
needs labs and exam soon

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for your question.
It is hard to know if the cough and the vomiting are related. It is true that sometimes when you have bronchitis, the cough persists for weeks to months after the infection has cleared.
However, the progression to malaise may mean that he has developed a worsening infection like pneumonia and the augmentin may not be the correct antibiotic for pneumonia.
He really should be seen by a doctor soon to get medications to relieve the nausea and vomiting and to check a chest xray and some blood tests to find out what is going wrong.
Make sure he is drinking fluids in small sips to keep hydrated but not to worsen the nausea.
Help him get to his doctor or an urgent care today

Thanks so much for your reply. He has an appt with his physicians asst. Monday but if vomiting continues will act on that faster. Do the random leg cramps (started happening way before vomiting) mean anything ?

Brief Answer:
not necessarily

Detailed Answer:
Leg cramps can be caused by a relative dehydration, vitamin or mineral deficiencies or lack of movement and stretching. You can't really start him on a multivitamin since he is vomiting but it may be a good idea once he is feeling better. Try to keep him hydrated and have him regularly stretching the legs and walking around some.
Let me know if you have further questions. I hope he is feeling much better soon.
