Brief Answer:
Addition in anti-hypertensive therapy

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir. Thank you for your question and welcome to Health Care Magic. I understand your concern.

Well, vertigo and diarrhoea may be due to post-procedural phenomena which can produce these symptoms and may last up to six weeks after the surgery. I would not recommend specific treatment at this moment, regarding these two symptoms.

Regarding high blood pressure, based on your male sex, your age and the fact that you underwent a procedure of coronary artery bypass grafting, then my opinion is that you need to be on a "stronger" therapy than just Irbesartan , to control your blood pressure figures.

In fact, our aim would be to keep these figures lower than 140/90 mmHg, at least. If you did not suffer a myocardial infarction and your heart ejection fraction (EF - an indicator of heart function - above 50% - you may find it in echo cardiogram), then a beta-blocker, which also has a good control on the heart rate (in this way it decreases the heart workload) and, also, a diuretic (either hydrochlorthiazid or furosemide) should be added to your therapy. Discuss with your cardiologist regarding the dosage and frequency of taking.

I hope this helps. I am happy to help, if you have follow-up questions. Please close the discussion and rate the answer, if you do not.

My best regards,
Dr. Meriton

My Family Doctor increase the dosage of the Irbesartan from 150mg to 300mg which is the double dosage and I am still controlling my BP which is at an average rate of 160 - 190. Do you think I should consult my Doctor and ask to increase again the dosage .............Is there any danger to increase this dosage of Irbesartan??????
I want also to let you know that I have exactly 2 months (8 weeks) since I had the surgery for by-pass for blockage on my heart which according to results I had 87% blockage.
What is your advise on Blood Pressure too high....Thank you

Brief Answer:
Hello again

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back Sir.

No, it is not dangerous to double the irbesartan into 300 mg/day. But, I've also described you one or two other drugs from other classes to fight your hypertension, in the original answer, as it is clear that Irbesartan alone cannot fight your high blood pressure and keep it under 140/90 mmHg.

I would recommend you to discuss with your cardiologist about the dosage and frequency of the other drug(s), as these blood pressure figures should be brought under control.

I hope this helps.

Feel free to ask if you have any further queries.

Wish you the best,
Dr. Meriton

Brief Answer:
Hello again.

Detailed Answer:
Yes, it is not a problem, but I cannot suggest dosage and frequency, since online prescriptions are not allowed.

In the original answer I'd suggested a Beta-blocker, Atenolol to be specific, would be most suitable if the heart function is within normal parameters. Also a diuretic, such as Hydrochlorthiazide or Frusemide should be added to optimize your blood pressure.

I hope this helps.

Wish you a good health, let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards
Dr. Meriton
