What Causes Delay In Menstrual Bleeding After Marvelon Intake?

default
Posted on Fri, 5 Feb 2016
Question: Good Day. I have a question. My periods date is on XXXXXXX 11th. I had unprotected sex with my partner on XXXXXXX 4th & XXXXXXX 6th. It was not completely unprotected sex as the ejaculation happened outside and most of it was done orally as well. I had consumed high dosage of ‘Marvelon’ tablets in two rounds of 4 tablets each. I’m concerned now as my periods hasn’t come yet. I had consulted Dr. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX and she said no chance that I can get pregnant as I had in the safe period and ovulation is not possible during that time. She also mentioned that since I consumed ‘Marvelon’ tablets in high dosage, my periods will be delayed more. I can’t get in touch with Dr. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX as I guess my consultation period with her is done with. Please advise.
Thanks in advance.

Brief Answer:
Less likely to be pregnant

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome.
I have gone through your query.
I would suggest you to one or the other method of contraception, if you are not trying to be pregnant.

In your case as suggested by the doctor, the date you had unprotected sex, is likely to be safe period. And you are less likely to be pregnant.

Delayed period might be due to pills that you have consumed or might be due to stress. Relax based on the information provided by you, you are less likely to become pregnant. To reduce your anxiety, you can test, urine pregnancy test with morning sample after a week of missed period. Irregularities in menses are common and stress can further delay it.

This provisional advice provided by me is based entirely on the input provided to me. I would suggest examination by the doctor.

I hope this suggestion might be of some help to you.
Take care.

Thanks Doctor. I know I can't be pregnant but just scared as I don't want to be in that phase now.

Just to add on, I get my periods regularly. What worries me is just because of the fact that I have never got my periods late. It's these hormonal tablets which delays this whole thing i believe.

Is there a measure for periods to come early as in any medicines or measures? Please advise.

Thanks once again.
