Brief Answer:
No need to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
It is my pleasure to answer your query,

Rabivax is an excellent anti rabies vaccine and the symptoms are unrelated to side effects of vaccine and donot need to worry to much about these symptoms.

You have to complete full course of vaccination as per the schedule and these symptoms should not be barrier for completion of treatment.

The cold chain of anti rabies vaccine should maintained between 2-8 degree centigrade.
Thank you.

Hi Doctor,

I took bath yesterday night with warm water and got shivering after my bath. I rushed to clinic and the temperature was about 100 c. I had a tablet under neath my tongue and later the fever went down. Now after waking up in morning I am still feverish. Doctor took complete blood count and urine test to assure about infection. He said nothing to worry after reports.

Please let me know why this is happening and can I take paracetamol during rabies vaccination.

Thanks
doctor

Brief Answer:
? Viral infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome back,

The symptoms suggest that you may be having some flu like viral symptoms. As your lab investigations are normal nothing to worry.

Yes you can take paracetamol which helps to reduce your symptoms and it will not interfere the anti rabies vaccine action.
Thank you.

Thanks doctor. I was little worried.

How one can say the vaccine has started working? Does giddiness and nausea after shots confirm that?

Any food items I need to avoid during vaccination?

My third dose is on sunday. Would I need to consult my physician before taking that?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Praveen G (52 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
No food restriction

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome back to Healthcare Magic,

Usually no symptoms after administration of vaccine. Anti rabies vaccine will stimulate the immune system to induce protective antibody titers.

There is no food restriction during the treatment. If you are alcoholic you need to avoid it as it may interfere with antibody production.

You need to consult your doctor to take third shot of anti rabies vaccine nothing else.
Thank you.

Third shot of anti rabies vaccine can be taken one day prior or one day after the scheduled days. Don't prolong beyond this, otherwise it may delay the achievement of protective antibody titre.

Doctor, Is this getting serious? Are these signs of rabies? My lab investigation was normal on Saturday. Please clarify
doctor
Answered by Dr. Praveen G (4 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
No, it is not a sign of rabies

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome back,

These symptoms are not the symptoms of rabies. I think you are having some bacterial infection secondary to viral infection which will take some time to relieve your symptoms.

Don't be panic, you have taken the vaccine by this time this would have induced antibody titres to protect you.

Thank you.

Doctor,

I consulted my physician and they told like I have viral infection but no inflammation. This was diagnosed on Saturday test. Some Rbc cells in urine too. Today I am getting good appetite and no fever from morning. My antibiotic ends today night. Please let me know whether the same thing would happen on 4th dose. What precautions need to taken? My doctor went ahead with urine culture this time along with blood test as said above because of little irritation during urination. The results would be given on friday. My D0 was on sept 14. And D4 is on this sunday. Please let me know whether I need to change schedule because of D3.

Thanks much

Stop taking the antibiotics as your symptoms has come down. I would suggest you to take the fourth shot of anti rabies vaccine as per the schedule nothing will happen.

Thank you.

Hi doctor,

Thanks for your guidance.

Today I took forth shot and my oral temperature hovers between 99-99.5 F.

I was normal for past 2 days.

I smell something odd in my nose. Not sure whether there is infection in my nose and can feel like some shivering occurring inside my ears.

Is this a side affect of vaccine ?

Please let me know what can i do next as I am continuously battered with these events.

Thanks

Welcome to HCM,

These are not the side effects of anti rabies vaccine. As your having mild fever you can take Tab Paracetamol now.

For your odour do gargling with chlorhexidine mouth wash. If this symptom persists then we will think about other medicines.
Thank you.

I hope and pray everything goes well. I am feeling little traumatic after this. Please give your thoughts on how to cope up with this scary phase.

My temperature comes in evening and goes by night since past 2 days.

Take these medicines

I can understand your concern,

As your ENT specialist has done physical examination and found out that there is a infection in the pharynx, you require these medicine to control the infections and your symptoms.

Hi Doctor,

I have completed my course on 0,3,8,14,28 days.

Just wanted to ensure that my vaccination would not fail.

1.Does taking vaccine on 8th day instead of 7th day would be a problem?
2.Do I need to take a test to check for antibody because of the medicines I took ?
(Azithral,Moxclav,Pantocid,wikoryl,Xyxal,Calpol)
3. I took the first dose (D0) on evening and others on morning. Is that an issue ?
4. Can I take normal food ? I was taking only vegetarian all these days.
5. Why D90 is considered as optional ?

Thank you
doctor
Answered by Dr. Praveen G (16 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome back, it is my privilege to answer your queries,

1. As you have completed the full course of anti rabies vaccine nothing to worry. The third dose was delayed by one day it will not affect protective antibody titres.

2. No, you don't need to check for Rabies virus neutralizing antibodies (RVnAb). The medications which you took will not interfere with antibody production.

3.As you have taken the anti rabies vaccine on the scheduled days, it will not matter whether you take in the morning or evening.

4. There is no food restriction while on anti rabies vaccination either vegetarian or Non vegetarian.you can have normal regular diet.

5.By day 28 protective antibody titres of >0.5 IU/ml will be achieved, there is no need of day 90 dose.

I hope you are satisfied with the answer, if you have any other clarification I will be very much happy to clarify them.
Thank you.

My last set of questions :)

1.There is a conception that missing a schedule is like resetting the protection level to nil. Is that a misconception?

2.I developed fever during course and have 5 mon old daughter. Would it affect her or my family members in any way?

3.After my fifth shot I developed muscular pain like before. Does that mean vaccine is working?

4. During first shot i didn't feel anything like muscular pain. Why is it so?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Praveen G (8 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Yes it is a misconception

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM

1. It is a misconception that missing the dose will resets the induction of antibody titre.

2. No the fever may be due to some other infection for which you have taken appropriate treatment. No way it affects your family members including your 5 month old daughter.

3.wether vaccine is working or not is not decided by getting any symptoms. It is a misconception. As you have not developed any symptoms of rabies itself guarantees that vaccines are able to induce protective antibody titres.

4.Nothing to worry about the symptoms you had and it is no where concerned with your antibody production.

Thank you.

Thanks doctor!

I just came trough this with guidance from you and my physician. Checked my throat infection today with ent and he said it is completely gone but cautioned for next one month.

Once again thanks very much for your crucial guidance during my 3rd and 4th shot.

Just wanted to check with you. Any developments going on for single dose vaccine in near future for human fraternity?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Praveen G (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
No

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome Back,

Regarding vaccination against rabies there is no single shot. In case of Cat III bite single shot of anti rabies serum (Rabies immunoglobulin) is given around the wound along with complete shots of anti rabies vaccine.

Thank you.
