Question: Hi, I am a 28 years old female. I was diagnosed with B12 deficiency and had my first B12 injection 5 days ago. I felt better until yesterday and it got worse. I feel dizzy, tired and weak. I also feel like I do not have enough air going in when I breathe. Can my symptoms be a side effect of the injection?

Brief Answer:
These side effects are not seen with Vitamin B12 injections.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.

As you have been started treatment for vitamin b12 deficiency.

Usually there are no side effects with vitamin b12 supplements, especially because it a water soluble vitamin.

Some of the possible side effects are,

Pain at the injection site or abscess formation or dyspepsia and gastritis which are also uncommon.

The side effects like dizziness, tired or weakness or breathing difficulty which you have mentioned are not seen with Vitamin B12 injections,so no need to be worried about it.

Perhaps if the dizziness or breathing problem is not so troublesome for your day to day work, then you may wait for few days.

Until then you may take proper hydration and electrolyte balance with some symptomatic antihistamines treatment like betahistidine (vertin 16 mg) or Cinnarizine 75 mg with bronchodilators like theophylline (unicontin 400) for symptomatic relief.Your GP or some local doctor may prescribe it.

However,in case if the problem is persistent, you should see a doctor at the earliest and get evaluated further. I will suggest you undergo routine blood count, ESR, blood electrolytes, rotation tests to diagnose the cause for dizziness.

Your local physician will know about the tests. He/she will can order the test after complete history and thoroughly clinical examination like temperature, pulse, blood pressure which will enable us to arrive a diagnosis.

I hope this will help, if you have any further queries please feel free to ask.
