Question : I have been taking verapamil 360mg once a day for about 5 years. It is not working for me any more. What would be your choice of meds to try next. My bp is elevated. Has been as high as 190 over 102 at times. I do have appt with doctor in 2 weeks. Just wondering what you would change your patient to next
Brief Answer:
Multi drug regimen works better.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. There are a number of types of drugs that can be given to control blood pressure. Rather than removing verapamil (a calcium channel blocker), I would possibly have added a diuretic like Aquazide-12.5 (Hydrochlorothiazide). Based on the response, some ACE Inhibitor like Cozaar (losartan) could be added.
Let me know if I could help further.
