What Causes Fatigue, Fever And Running Nose After Non-penetrative Sexual Activity?

Question: Hi,

I went to a night club and after having 2 drinks was dancing with a girl. The girl said that she was only visiting the country for 31st December and then she will go back.

I kept on dancing with her and then we deep.losses each other twice for long time. I was too drunk not to realize that i should not be deep kissing. It was just kissing and nothing more happened.

Could there be a chance that the girl was HIV infected and transfered the virus to me?

It has been 65 hours since the incident happened and currently I am having flu type symptoms. Sneezing, weakness, little fever and liquid running out of my nose, and I am also having diarrhea since last 10 hours.

Are this symptoms.to ARS after the HIV infection?
It has been 66 hours since the incident happened, can I take PEP medication to prevent HIV?

Can there be a chance that she had a cut in her mouth and the virus get transfered to me through blood contact with gums in my mouth? I do.notice that many timesy gums do bleed while brushing.

Please.advise what should I do. I am feeling very nervous due to this incident and the flu and diarrhea that I am having right now that could be sign of ARS.

Please advise

Thanks

Brief Answer:
HIV risk with deep kissing is negligible.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
Kissing has no risk for HIV.Deep kissing carries a negligible risk as per CDC, XXXXXXX
PEP is not indicated for deep kissing. PEP is meant for only to the occupational exposures with health care providers.
Even if we consider that the girl is HIV positive woman and had a cut over her mouth or some oral disease, then also the risk is negligible only. Human saliva contains an enzyme called as Lysozyme, that would be inimical to HIV.
Earliest symptms in HIV disease can occur in the presence of an infection (acute infection) only after 4-6 weeks and not earlier than that. So your symptoms were not related to HIV as it occurred within 65 hours after the kissing.
Cold, sneezing, fever, weakness of the body can occur to anybody as these are very common problem. Air born infection of common clod can occur easily during kissing due to close intimacy, especially if the other partner had the infection.
So nothing to worry. Ruling out HIV with blood test will relieve your unecessary mental tension.

Can RNA testing be done within less than 3 days and get the accurate results?

Are there any reported cases of ARS within less than 3 days after infection?

Brief Answer:
ARS can not occur within 3 days. There are no such reports.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
There is no such reports of either ARS or acute infection within three days after the risk contact or infection. HIV PCR test can detect the presence of an infection by 7 days, but it will become more conclusive by 3-4 weeks.

Hi,

I had taken a course for PEP once before. Can the body develop ARS symptoms quickly within 3 days as I already taken PEP medication before?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
PEP taken previously has no influence on the present exposure.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
HIV enters through skin and mucus membrane, reaches the lymph node through dendritic cells of skin. From there it reaches to the circulation and gets entry into the helper T lymphocytes and the disease gets established. This will take not less than 72 hours. Then the virus started multiplication and infecting fresh lymphocytes and so on. So symptoms can not occur prior to 4 weeks, immaterial whether you had been taken pep previously or not. Moreover the PEP taken would get metabolised by the body system and body would eliminate the same within three days at the maximum. If PEP is taken now (with present exposure) it would delay the manifestation, in the presence of infection (if it fails), definitely not pre-pone the manifestations.

Hi,

Yesterday I had bad fever, cough, very bad throat. Took ibuprofen and antihistamine, feeling little better, but just saw that blood came out in cough.

I also see there are some build up white color thing on my tongue, which looks like bumps.

Is blood in cough sign of anything bad?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
All symptoms are possible with common sore throat.Unlikely due to HIV.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
Not at all. Ordinary sore throat sometimes with few individuals can manifest with blood tinged sputum. It will be alright when your sore throat and fever will get better. All that came white on the tongue is not necessarily due to oral thrush. Your physician will be able to tell it confidently. This has no relation to HIV infection.
