Question : I've had a fever for three days (it got up to 103.9, but hasn't been above 102 since then) along with a bad cough, congestion, chest congestion, aches, & I've noticed I have these bumps on my legs and now on my hand that are itchy. I've been taking Tylenol Cold & Flu and using a Vicks Vaporizer. What should I do?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Spikes in the temperatures are seen in viral pneumonia or bronchitis. Sometimes if you neglect early treatment it can go to a bacterial pneumonia in which case you need antibiotics. If you are person who lives a healthy lifestyle with minor exposures to sick people you should get over this easily with the current tylenol (thrice a day), vaporizer (four times a day) and Robutussin DM (thrice a day). You also need good amount of water intake coupled with REST. You need two more days to get well.

If you are person who work in dusty envirnoment, who fall sick regularly or have low immune status you should go for an immediate antibiotic treatments. The fever spikes are common in both the causes above.

Please use clarification if you have questions further.

Im typically healthy and work in a healthy/clean environment. I am working at home until I am better. Does this not sound like it could be the flu?

Can i take the Tylenol Cold & Flu with Robitussin Cold? It has some of the same ingredients. Ive been taking the Tylenol every four hours and ive had the steam vaporizer on for the last 18 hours .

Brief Answer:
Flu

Detailed Answer:
Yes this sounds flu.

Your efforts should be fine and I do not think you require any further than rest at home. Make sure you maintain cough isolation as you can pass it on to others for one more day.

You can take Robitussin DM and plain Tylenol as mentioned in my previous mail. Robitussin cold and DM are different with Dextromethorphan (slight drowsiness as side effect). Tylenol and Tylenol cold are different. Please note this.

Hope this clarifies. If you do not have further inquires please close my discussion.
