Posted on Wed, 23 Nov 2016
Question: Hi..I had protected sex with a hooker 7 weeks back and in the process I did a PCR test on day 11 and a duo test at 6 weeks which was negative. The only problem is I'm feeling anxious and need that reassurance. I also had a little fever in the morning which made me even more anxious. Can I forget about the incident?

Yes for sure.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Welcome to HCM.

You had protected sex with hooker then there is no chance of getting HIV and Duos test at 6 weeks is also negative so don't get anxious or feared as you are absolutely safe and risk free from HIV.

Fever can be due to other infection also not only be HIV. Consult your physician to isolate the cause & follow the treatment regime. Be relaxed, forget the episode and move ahead in life happily.

They say that the P24 disappears after 4 weeks, when the antibody is produced. So, is there a possibility that if you're hiv+, that once that happens for a brief period both maybe undetectable? Is my understandING wrong? Because first antigen is formed then antibody is formed.
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sunil Jangid (20 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
You are absolutely wrong.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Welcome back and thanks for follow-up.

It is not true because once you get infected then it is for life time and test result will definitely detect the presence of virus whether through antibody or antigen so don't think much, forget about episode and live your life normally with the family.

Welcome to HCM once again.

You need not to doubt your PCR and combo results because they are definitely reliable and conclusive. You had protected sex then why are you worried so much. ARS symptoms will not develop after 6week so stop reading too much about HIV on internet as it will just increase your anxiety. Calm down, forget about the past and move ahead in life happily. For any further query feel free to ask me any time.

I have a new partner but I'm scared of being sexually active with her because of this incident.
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sunil Jangid (12 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Avoid having multiple partners.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Welcome back and thanks for follow-up.

Having multiple sexual partners is very high risk for HIV so I never advice to have sexual relationship with other partner even though there is no risk in the previous encounter. Always believe in monogamous relationship as it is very helpful as far as prevention of HIV and other STDs are concerned.

Hi sir. I wanted to know if this is true when they say, the combo test has no chance of coming a false negative. My understanding is that, provided the test is conducted during the right time. If the person is hiv+ then he'd either come positive on the Antigen part or the Antibody test, since these two are conducted separately. The chances of missing both are almost slim to none, right? Am I right?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sunil Jangid (4 hours later)
Brief Answer:
You are absolutely right.

Dear XXXXXXX
