Brief Answer:
Mostly due to Enlarged Prostate Needs to rule out.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .
The strong smell to urine is mostly due to stagnated urine resulting out bladder outlet obstruction due to Enlarged Prostate .

Consult qualified Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination and get following basic tests done to confirm the diagnosis.
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis with specific mention of Post Void Residual urine (PVR)
3) Serum PSA.

Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions , I shall be happy to help you .
Thanks and Regards.

Thanks Dr. XXXXXXX I'm seeing a urologist today.

Question: I'm 71 and in great health, used to take proscar which I understand keeps the prostrate small, but stopped talking it a few years ago but my last PSA test about year ago was very good. Is what's happening to me normal for my age, or could it indicate a bigger problem, in your opinion?

I'll measure it today, but my PSA 4 months ago was 0.41 NG/ML. The range is 0.0-4.0. fyi.

Thanks for follow up .
Enlarged Prostate is a normal ageing process that affects 70-80 of males after the age of 60 years .

PSA is screening tets for Cancer of the prostate
Since your PSA id normal you should not think about any major problem .like Cancer of Prostate .

Do not worry This can be controlled and resolved with medications .

Whew, thanks!!!!

Sorry, meant to ask: I'll confirm with my doctor, but should I go back on proscar to shrink it? The downside is lower libido, yes? Whatever shrinks the prostate lowers libido generally?

Thanks!
